Criminal Investigation Division

The Criminal Investigation Division (C.I.D.) conducts in depth investigations into major crimes that occur in Dubuque County, and is staffed by a Captain, Sergeant and five (5) investigators.  Among the crimes most frequently investigated by the division are sexual assaults, child and dependent adult abuse, burglary, arson, and financial crimes.

Investigators have received extensive advanced training in crime scene processing, evidence handling, death investigation, and interviewing and interrogation.  Investigators work closely with the Dubuque County Attorney’s Office in the preparation of cases for prosecution, and as such are expected to have extensive knowledge of the rules of evidence and search and seizure.

In addition, the C.I.D. Sergeant and two (2) investigators work primarily in narcotics enforcement and are assigned to the Dubuque Drug Task Force.  These deputies also work closely with the Dubuque County Attorney’s Office as well as the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa.
